Thank A Soldier Monthly: Hockey Night in Afghanistan: I received an email today from the wife of a Canadian soldier who is currently deployed with the U.S Air Force and she shared something a...

Will he ever leave???

If you recall this post, it was about a huge blowup Vx & I had about a year ago, I kicked him out, let him come back to recover from his surgery, he was supposed to move out after he recovered, but he didn't.

Christmas time comes, this post talks about how I wanted either us to move or him to move out. Neither happened, I got a voice recorder instead.

May 23rd, another blow up, he said that a month from that day, he will be moved out & to put the date down in my phone. June 23rd came & gone, he was still here! In July, he was too sick to work most of the month because of his kidney stone. Nothing could be done about it at the time because he also decided to fuck up his Tri-care. He gets kidney stones every year, he knew it was coming, so why did he mess up his insurance???

About 2 weeks ago, another blow up. Mom & I told him he has to leave (yes, we still live with her!), he said his new place would be ready last Wednesday, it wasn't (typical), but he's been staying with someone & moving out what he could. I took away his apartment key, but he magically still has a copy. This coming from the same idiot who frequently lost my keys & his keys at the same time, but couldn't be bothered to look for them!

Numerous times in the last 4 years, he has said he would do things that he never did. He keeps sending me messages about how much he loves me & how he doesn't want to be apart from me. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!!! I told him he's trespassing if he uses a key to get into the apartment, he did at least once when I went out of town w/my mom & "step-dad" (they're not married, but they might as well be, they act like a REAL married couple, unlike Vx & I). The laptop he "had to have for his deployment" that he never went on is also gone, 3/4 of the storage containers in the bedroom where he kept some of his Army crap in are gone, he had the newspapers laying on the couch, with a picture f/our wedding & the cake topper on the kitchen counter. His desktop computer is still here on his huge-ass desk, some of the stuff that was on it is still there, I have piled on stuff I have found in other areas there for him to get. Some stuff will be easy to split up, others not so much. My mom keeps insisting on me getting the fancy cookware out of storage that my brother gave us that we never used (we have mom's stuff, it's crowded as it is, why have more than what we need here?), I don't have a key, so I'll have to try & get it from him. We bought a set of tables, the coffee table is what I use as a computer desk for my laptop, the other 2 side tables are still in pieces in the storage unit. Towels & some bakeware my friend in AZ sent us are also in there. His younger sister bought us a few dishes (storage), some friends of his bought some kitchen cookware utensils, his former Sifu bought us a set of towels & some bathroom stuff (towels in storage, other stuff in bathroom), someone bought a comforter & throw blanket for the bed, one was from the older sister, the other may have been from my former boss, idk (no gift book was purchased, & my memory was still fuzzy partly f/dealing w/morphine withdrawals). The other wedding gifts we received were cash or they were waiting to give them until we moved (almost 4 years later, we still haven't moved or received those gifts).

I'm keeping the cat, no questions asked. He didn't clean her litter box for over a year because he wouldn't tell me that I was buying litter that aggravated his asthma that according to the Army he doesn't have, he didn't refill her food or water dish when asked to, so why would he take good care of her on his own now? He never took her to the vet, either. He never had the joy of being in the car w/her (constant, loud crying, especially while driving in a construction zone).

He has not paid any rent in the last 4 years or so, he hasn't paid his cell phone bill, either. He thought I was taking care of that, there never was enough money in the bank to cover the cell phone bills, rent, car insurance, internet he had to have (I went to the library & used my phone before that), & everything else. Then he wondered why I got so mad at him for buying useless crap.

He said he would fix my air conditioner, it hasn't worked right for over a year, he never did. Some of the last hockey games we drove home from in my car, it was raining. When the wipers were turned on, we saw they needed to be replaced. He said he would do it. I want to say 2 months later, it rains again while I'm out driving. The wipers were never replaced, so I had the guy at Auto Zone do it for me. We had numerous days over 100 degrees outside, one of those days, Vx drove my car to do stuff when I needed to do things with it instead. He said he was working, so I kept asking him, "Why didn't you drive you work van?" when he finally returned home, I left just to find out my car was about to overheat! I took my car keys away from him. Earlier that day, I had also asked him to refill P's food dish, either she ate a whole lot more food in those few hours then she normally does in a day or he didn't do it. That day, it was just one thing after another.

Numerous times, he has said he was sorry & he wouldn't do it again, just to turn around & do it again, or he would say he would do something, and then not do it. I've had it!

I may not be married into the Army much longer, but then again, I have no job, he won't get a "real" job, so we may have to end up staying married, just living separately, idk. If your asking "why doesn't he go full time?" he said he tried that, there are too many active duty soldiers, while the Reserves are short-handed in certain areas (just not in his area, considering units in our area have more CBRN's then they know what to do with them). He also said he's not qualified to join the HAZMAT team the fire department has. SERIOUSLY?!?! I don't doubt Vx on this, it just seems real fucked-up his Army skills can't be used for anything in the real world. The security company my mom works for is short-handed, I have asked him to go to work for them, he has a conceal carry license, military experience, he should be more qualified & make more money then my mom (who's unarmed & in charge of her jobsite) does. Her boss at the company heard about my security experience & asked me if I wanted to get my CLEET & work for them. TSA wouldn't hire him because of his credit, but this place doesn't care about that, shoot they only drug test employees when they hire them.

He's been more like a brother to me then a husband, & we were both living w/mom, sharing a bedroom. I want to be a real adult, & actually move away f/home! Why hasn't he got that??? He says its because he was kicked out when he was 15. Still, he was on his own, I never have been, his deployment was supposed to be my chance to actually be on my own, but like everything else he says he gonna do, he doesn't.

He wouldn't let me give up on my dream when I was trying to, now there are fewer job openings now then there was when I was fresh out of school. I don't want to go back to school & get a bachelors, even those w/that degree aren't getting jobs. I applied for "my boss" job after he left the hockey team for another hockey team, I was the least qualified candidate (no one has been announced yet as the new person), but the GM wants to help me gain more experience, so I'll be back with them next season, not getting paid. I need a paying job that I'm qualified for (very few out there), won't interfere w/the hockey team (games played on some Tues. nights, weekends, & some holidays, when newbies at most jobs would have to work), & that my body can handle (bad leg aggravated by cold temps).

I just wish things would get better already, instead of worse & worse (like they have these last 4 years)!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

It's been a while since I've filled out one of these, so here I am!

This week, it's all about the "or's"... just make sure you tell us why!

1. Facebook or Twitter?

If I get a job w/the hockey team (I have some kind of phone thing w/the GM Thursday, not sure if its an interview, offer for some type of job, or a nice way to break the bad news to me) then Facebook all the way! If not, then I'll return to my usual answer, twitter. I feel I have more privacy on twitter since its mainly limited to words you type at that moment (not as much on pictures, stats, etc.), but my facebook posts about the team could land me a job, so we'll see!

2. Hard Tacos or Soft Tacos?
At a restaurant, I LOVE hard tacos, but at home, soft since the shells are usually broken for the ones you buy at the store.

3. Gardening or crafting?
I'm not very good or even interested in either, but crafting seems like a better choice out of the 2. No green thumb for me!

4. Fruit or vegetables?
My sweet tooth definitely wants fruits more!

5. Motorcycle or bicycle?
Bicycle for sure! I hate riding on motorcycles, I've dated both types of riders, Vx owns both, but I never ride w/him. Last time I rode a bicycle was a stationery one in physical therapy 3 or 4 years ago, motorcycle has probably been about that long as well.

It's good to be back! Summer dept. is over now, I did get some extra hours at the end, which helps since Vx has been too sick to work f/his kidney stone (it came out, either in 2 pieces, or 2 different ones formed this time, which could explain why this smaller one was so much worse than the others, he has a dr. appt. coming up to determine more & a plan to reduce or eliminate them). I'm looking for a new job, I've been focusing my search more on what I went to school for many years ago, but the pickings are slimmer this time around then they were when I was fresh out of school. Wish us luck!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1Have you (spouse) ever considered joining the military and what do you think of dual military couples? submitted by Project Army Wife
The impression that both of us have is that if I wanted to join, I couldn't because of the metal in my leg. Vx knows a couple that deployed together, they were in the same unit before, after & I assume when they were deployed (same MOS). They had a baby, it was with her parents, considering his age, I think it was probably better they did that when they did, but as the kid gets older, I know having one parent or both gone will be tough on him. Another couple both of us know, he was already in before they met, she joined, then found out a few weeks after starting basic she's pregnant, so she was sent home & I believe she was discharged. I have no interest in Chemical Warfare, so it probably wouldn't work for us even if I wanted to/could join.
2. What is your idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon? submitted by A Few of My Favorite Things
I guess driving around, idk.
3. What do you usually do for the 4th of July holiday?  submitted by Anchor’s Away
Work, this year I'm off on the 4th, but work the weekend before. My brother's visiting the area, he leaves sometime on Monday, so idk.
4. If they could make an Olympic event JUST for you that you know you’d medal in, what would it be? submitted by Pants are Confusing
Something to do with music? idk
5.  What have you been doing to get yourself bathing suit ready for the summer? submitted by Not Just an Army Wife
Nothing out of the ordinary. I have less of an appetite when its hot outside, so I am eating less & losing a little weight, but the scars are still there, so no bathing suits for me!

1. Are you a different person than you were five years ago? submitted by Sisterly Thoughts
Some, mostly small things, but overall, I think I'm pretty much the same person.

2. If you could go on Amazing Race, who would you take with you as your partner and why? submitted by Thoughts from a Poekitten
Idk, Vx would drive me nuts! I don't really know any good travel companions.

3. Does Facebook or Twitter actually bring more stress or good in to your life? submitted byJust an Arizona Girl
A little of both, the drama queen in-laws I have can ruin facebook for me at times, but when I'm on there playing games or doing posts for the hockey team, I love it! Twitter can be the same way for me, I follow people I like most of the time, but there are moments when they're griping about something that annoys me, I don't share their opinions, or if I'm following along tweets about a sporting event where most of the people I follow are on the other side. Overall, I think both sites are great to have!

4. June is National Soul Food Month- what’s your soul food? submitted by NH Girl Displaced
I guess pizza

5. If you could live in any other era than the current, which one would it be & why? submitted by Sugar in My Grits
Maybe the 70's, idk. It seems like a lot of music & fashion that I like are based on that era.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. Underwear Parties, how old is too old? submitted by Wookie & Co.
Never heard of them

2. What was your favorite class in high school? submitted by Adventures of M-Squared
Band, Quiz Bowl is a close second. Both classes were a lot of fun for me, the trips also helped.

3. Have you ever convinced packers/movers to pack something they aren’t supposed to for a PCS? submitted by Ground Control to Major Mom
n/a

4. Blogging plays a growing roll in the media. If you were asked to embed as a blogger with a deployed military unit, would you go? What do you think your blog would be like? submitted by To the Nth
I'm not sure if I would want to go or not, I know if I did, I would blog about what was going on around me as much as I'm allowed to blog about.

5. Do you think kids should attend year-round school? submitted by Marrying the Navy
When I was in school, I hated the summer months, we hardly ever went on a vacation or did anything fun. Both of my parents worked most of that time, my dad worked Monday-Friday mostly during the day, my mom was employed at my school as a secretary for the middle school & the athletic director, so she still had to work year round. For kids like me, year-round school would spread out the breaks so they're not as boring, but I know it would be difficult on others.
My former & current co-workers are partially able to have that job because many work at a school or attend one. The event center holds many more events during the summer months, so year-round school would affect some if not all of those events as well.
The military perspective, I know PCS moves seem to occur more during the summer months, so year round school would affect those children's educations and if their other parent works at a year round school, their jobs as well, while requesting time off for a vacation might be easier during an off-peak time (when a year round school is on a break) then the summertime (when every one's pcs-ing or vacationing while kids are out for the summer).

(Sorry for the rant)

Hope you have a fun weekend!

1. When you vacation what type of vacation do you like to take (beach, historic, adventurous, food oriented, etc.)?submitted by Megan Dub-Yuh

Last trip I took a trip, we went to a beach, but it was too cold to swim, & I got to eat some food I normally don't eat like different types of Chinese & Seafood, plus Jack in the Box (never had it until that trip, since then 2 of their restaurants have been built in my area). I like going shopping on trips (gift shops, regular stores that carry different items for different locations [like Wal-Mart, and many others]), & enjoying the sights.

2. What is your best memory associated with a song (you know we all have tons!) submitted by Ramblings of a Marine Wife
Many of the songs that I have great memories associated with are songs that I saw performed live by their bands (a few covers fall in this category as well).

3. If you had six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with your time? submitted by Married to the Army
Travel, go to concerts, movie theaters, sporting events, and anything else that comes to mind (be spontaneous).

4. What is one thing about you that people do NOT typically notice at first that you wish they would?
submitted by Our Motto is Patience
That I'm older than I look, I hate being treated like a teenager (I'm 28).

5. .... submitted by The Three TurnersIt's a summer of sequels, and if you had to live in one of each of the following "worlds" (there are three total) which would you choose and why?
--X-Men: Be a Mutant, what would your power be? This one's the only one I know anything about, my superpower, that I don't know what it would be.
--Harry Potter: Be a Witch or Muggle? idk what the differences in these are
--Twilight: Be a Vampire or Werewolf? I'm not into this one, either. I believe vampires stay up all night, so I guess this one

It's AT time for Vx, of course I'll be working the whole time, so I see McDonald's, Hot Dogs (a cart around town opened up a restaurant I haven't tried out yet since Vx is vegetarian, its open late on Friday's & Saturday's), Metallica music out loud, & other stuff he hates in my immediate future when I'm not working or sleeping. Try to have a fun weekend as well!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. It's now June (woot!)... what plans do you have for the summer?
I started at the summer dept. last night, that will go until the end of June, the rest is still up in the air.

2. What is your favorite summer memory as a kid?
Summer time usually wasn't a lot of fun for me, so I guess playing w/Barbie's all day, idk.

3. If wild animals could be made pets without fear of them ever being dangerous, what kind of exotic animal would you want as a pet?
A pet monkey might be kinda neat, I'm not sure though, they could also be a pain. A women in the next town actually has a kangaroo, it was injured, so it can't jump very high, & it won't grow any taller than it already is (which its not very tall). A kangaroo like that might be neat as well!

4. Is there anything about deployments that you do like? submitted by The Thrifty Military Wife
Doing things that he hates!

5. I'm starting to run out of questions again... so please give me a question you'd like to see (off-the-wall will most likely make it because we seem to have used a lot of the "traditional" ones).
Uh oh, Wifey needs questions again! I think I used my best material this last time. = (

1. Do you think civilians, in general, understand the meaning of Memorial Day?
As horrible as this may sound, I think some civilians understand better than I do!

2. What are your plans for the Memorial Day Weekend?
No plans at this time. Last year I worked at a dog show, but went to the movies to see Sex & the City 2 on Monday during the day, other years I was at the summer dept. so having this weekend off is rare for me.

3. What skill/talent do you wish you had? submitted by The 3 Turners
Not being so shy? I'm not sure.

4. Which came first: the chicken or the egg? submitted by I Married Into The Army
Ah, another one of my questions! I have asked this many times, one person responded "yo mama" while others weren't sure about it either. If you know the answer, then please, let me know!

5. What is the best thing about your post (base)? The worst? submitted by Randomly, Robyn
In terms of warriors, the best is the location (about 5 miles from where we live) & how everyone gets along, despite ranks & branches (Navy, Marines, & Army). The worst is how the Navy does ID's (it took 4 tries & an Army SGT making it before hours to finally get mine), it's only offices & a mechanics shop (no shopettes, PX, etc. but there's a Target & numerous other stores outside the gate), & when its not a drill weekend, the gate is an intercom that the Army only answers on occasion (the Marines usually answer, when everyone moves to the new place, there's supposed to be a guard at the new gate 24/7).
In terms of the where Vx's unit is at now, the best is that its on a real base & its close to his dad & younger sister (he gets to visit them whenever they order him there), the worst is that it's 2,100 miles away from here.

Enjoy your holiday weekend!

MFF

Since blogger's being a bitch, I'm doing my MilSpouse Friday Fill-in by email:

1. Which was the best day of your life- Wedding day or Homecoming day? submitted by Pink Champagne, Gatorade & MREs

Since I don't really remember either of them, I'll say the day I took my first step after my surgery.

2. Were you a part of the joining the military question or did you sign up for the relationship when your man was already in the military? submitted by Cammo Style Love
A little of both; he was in the National Guard before we met, got out, then he wanted to join the military again, so I told him I'd support him whatever he decided to do. The NG recruiter he talked to was not helpful, so he went to another recruiter station to talk to them, then he decided to join the Reserves.

3. What is your favorite Disney movie and why? submitted by Raising Roscoe
The Lion King, the songs were so catchy & the parts that aren't sad are still hilarious after a million watches.

4. What is your favorite family activity to do on the weekends? submitted by Destination: RN!
First off, define "weekends" for all of us who don't work the somewhat-normal 9-5 M-F jobs. When he's not doing something drill-like, military-related, I wasn't working when I worked at the event center or we weren't going to hockey games (part work, part fun), we did various things, sometimes together, sometimes apart. He's flown rc planes & helicopters, sometimes I went with him, other times I slept or did my own thing, we have went to the movies, concerts, out to dinner at places we'd normally wouldn't go to (distance, timing, etc.) & whatever fun ideas would pop into our heads.

5. Where do you secretly wish you could be stationed with you/your SO's line of work (realistically speaking, not everyone can be stationed on NAS Fiji)? submitted by Wookie & Co.
Despite the complaints I've heard from many others, I think I would like Hawaii, at least for the sake of my leg (it's always 70=little to no pain). Asia & Italy might be neat to live in for the culture, in terms of US posts, FLW would be neat for Vx & his MOS, Lewis-McChord is near his dad & younger sister (his current unit is there), McCoy is close to my siblings, Huachuca is real close to a childhood friend of mine & a warmer climate, while Leavenworth, Riley, Sill & FLW are all 4-5 hours from both our mom's & families.

To participate, visit Wifey's blog. Have a good weekend!
