Six Word Saturday

The object of this fun little game is to describe something in six words, here's my attempt:

RV's, motor homes, and boats

That's what I'm spending part of my weekend watching over. To play this fun game, visit Call Me Cate's blog by clicking the pretty little picture above, please use mister linky, and leave a comment, or Cate may run after you with scissors.

I realise I'm a little bit late on this entry, so I hope Sunday will be Funday for you!

What's this white stuff on the ground outside?

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I believe this was my first "White Christmas" here in Oklahoma at least. Thursday I had a wisdom tooth pulled, it was cracked, had a cavity and it wasn't even fully grown. My teeth have also been in this shoving match off and on for the last 2 or 3 weeks, so hopefully having one less tooth will help out until I get an appointment with an oral surgeon to remove an impacted wisdom tooth. As bad of an experience as that may sound like, that's the best dental experience I've had in a long time! It may have also helped that on this sheet I filled out before hand, on the "Do you have any concerns?" line I wrote bad experience and something about morphine withdrawals. They gave me some medicine that made me sick on Christmas day, so it wasn't the greatest holiday for me. I had 2 different plans for dinner, one was going out for chinese (which we did Saturday night) w/someone from warriors if he couldn't fly home (he made it), the other was a frozen pizza (its still in the freezer). My mom and her boyfriend didn't want to try to drive to his family's place, so they stayed home as well and made food for all 4 of us.

Vx news, he may become an instructor now. He attended a class on Chemical Warfare in Wisconsin (at least he was able to use all that cold Wx gear he's been issued for deployment), I guess he impressed the instructors on all his knowledge and stuff, so he may join their group. There's also the possibility that he may get to return to Fort Leonard Wood to teach some pre-deployment classes for a few months. It would be very awesome if that occurred, but nothing about this Army crap seems awesome, so no one's holding their breath on anything.

Part of the reason I haven't been blogging or even reading blogs that much lately is because of some of this crap. Several blogs I've read, the authors are talking about their husbands being gone, or they're about to leave AGAIN. As a wife of a soldier bending over backwards trying to get deployed so he can get combat pay, promotions, and that combat action badge he desperately wants before he becomes an instructor, drill sgt, or any of those other jobs people have offered him, this pisses me off to no end! HOW CAN YOU BE SO SURE THAT HE'S LEAVING??? We've spent the last 2 years under the impression that Vx is deploying in 3 months, and other than the 3 weeks he spent at the mob site, it still hasn't happened! Ladies, while your missing your man, be glad that the military thinks so highly of him that they want to keep sending him back time after time. Sorry if I'm offending anyone, but geez. Also, don't tell me it's a "Reserve thing" because if that was the case, why are National Guard units still being deployed? They're the ones that I believe are supposed to stay in the US protecting our borders, helping in natural disasters (like the OK ones that are digging cars out of snow-covered interstates, etc.) and ready to fight in our country while our regular military troops are overseas. Vx was in the National Guard before we met, he joined the Reserves so he could fight overseas, and he wouldn't have to move around all the time, so he can drive a tow truck when his uncle needs help, work in an oil field when his cousin needs help, work on other people's cars when they need repairs, paint walls, lay drywall, fix pipes, floors, do kung-fu at a specific school instead of having to find a new one every few years (lately he hasn't focused on it as much, but back then it was a big deal).

Ok, I'll quit offending people and losing the few followers I have now, maybe someday I'll actually come up with something real to post about instead of griping about something or another.

Six Word Saturday

For all of you that survived the turkey feast and Black Friday, it is time for another Six Word Saturday! My lovely words:

A Thanksgiving meal I actually liked!

Not an easy thing to find for a picky eater like myself, the in-laws did great this year! Our leftovers consisted of the pumpkin pie we brought (there were 2 others there, and Vx LOVES it, so we brought ours back home, they did eat our whip cream), I just had some for breakfast.

To participate in this fun little game, click on the pretty button above, please use Mr. Linky and leave a comment, or Cate may punch you in the face. Don't say I didn't warn ya!

Enjoy your weekend!

Attempting "brilliance"

Wish me luck as I attempt to blog about my job. October, oh the love/hate relationship continues!

Event #1: Various events and competitions w/carnival rides thrown in, beginning of October, I started the evening of September 30th and worked until the morning of October 12th. A few words that come to mind immediately: flooding, headaches, cold, rock, getting screwed over. Originally I was going to be watching some sound equipment on an outdoor stage, instead I was moved to a tent watching merchandise and a car. There's a slope where I was, so every time it rained or someone in an outdoor booth poured liquid onto the parking lot, it ran in. When this happens, all I can do is watch the water go in the booths. Most of these people in the booths already knew this would occur and did their best to keep items that could be damaged off the ground, but to still see the water run in and me not knowing for sure was bothersome. One night the rain did cause the event to close before I was supposed to come into work, because it had rained all day, the main area where the water was running in had sand bags, and a new spot (not as bad) had shavings, easier on me since that spot was used for golf carts, etc. That night was the easiest one on me, I didn't have to close up (AKA resist the urge to yell, "Get the fuck out, NOW!!!") and the rain kept people away, so I had a much needed nap that night! In terms of security issues, the biggest issues were the walls (they have zippers on them, the only people that used them were ok), one night a door handle was broken off, so that door could not be locked at closing time, but was fixed shortly after, and when everyone was trying to move out there were some problems that my supervisor (MIL) handled like the pro she is (it used to be her post after all). I did have some fun, one night I showed up 2 hours early and rocked out!

Shinedown rocked, as they have every time I've seen them live. Definite highlight for me! (picture from their website)

Event #2: Horse competition, last part of October, I worked the first night it started through the morning of November 1st. This was the second year for my work place to host this event, so the kinks were worked out this time around. I worked in the main arena 11pm-7am. Usually when I showed up, the competitions were over, and started the next day after I left, so all I did was watch some camera and sound equipment. The thing that got me was the fact that I relieved 2 guards, and then 2 guards relieved me! I know why there were 2 for the other shifts, they worked mostly during the competitions, they performed different tasks, some requiring 2 people. I like with what my sister said better, "Your just that good." The last night of the event, a co-worker took the night off, her arena had vendors booths set up and the show office was located there, so I was at her post instead. Much warmer this time around than the other times I worked that post, I would freeze to death in the past, this time the heat was on, I didn't even need my coat this time, let along the extra layers of clothes or the heating blanket! The only issue I had this time around was one night we were under a tornado watch and my arena is one of the shelters, so I had to be prepared to shove people into this hallway, luckily it never came to that.

In terms of my job tasks, work conditions and my hours, the second event kicked the first event's ass! In the fun department, the first event won hands down, how could I vote a horse competition over seeing Shinedown?

Unfortunately, these events are also the end of the busy time of year, I've worked a little bit since then, but for the most part I'll be lucky to get 20 hours a month until May or June rolls around, so now I need to figure out what to do exactly. Vx wants me to take guitar lessons, he gave me one for my birthday about 2 years ago but I have no clue how to play anything on it or how to read the music (definitely not written like clarinet music sheets), I've been going back and forth on school, more in the 'no' direction, its day to day with my leg and my lack of experience in most areas makes it difficult to know what job to try for. I don't have a CLEET license, so many security jobs are out of the equation, that and the whole leg issue, you need to be able to run after someone, stand at a post, or walk around on long patrols, something I can't do at my current job.

it happened again!

The short bus (salsa) is so fucked up, they aren't allowed to have reinforcements, so once again, Vx is not getting deployed! It's no wonder events like at Fort Hood occur, instead of sending someone that wants to go and has never been deployed, the Army sends soldiers that have already been there that either have no business going back, or they really wish not to, bad enough they cause harm to others.

I've also seen other things online about the Fort Hood incident that pissed me off. The military protects our freedoms, one of them being religion. Because of this, NOT EVERYONE IN THE MILITARY IS CHRISTIAN! Yes, there are Muslims (their dog tags say Islam) in the military, they do not have the desire to go on a shooting spree on a military instillation, they want to protect our freedoms and the United States like anyone else in the military. These Americans that do not call themselves christians have lived in the US all of their lives, maybe they traveled outside the country to visit family, but they share the same sentiment for our great country as "real" Americans do. It's the same thing in life, one person ruins it for everyone, one Muslim ruined the image of their religion for the others, one bad person in Salsa has ruined Vx's chances for deployment, one person at my job causes my superiors to have to change rules, in tern making me look like a bitch.

Right now the plan is to have Vx spend next month getting a different MOS so he can stay with Warriors, then early next year deploying with some unit. I don't have high hopes of this being the real scenario. Sometime this summer, someone at Warriors said that Vx's experience is not typical, then why the same shit happening to him over and over again?!?!?!

for real this time?

October was interesting. I won't go into the job details in this entry, but it was 2 big events w/a week long break in between (for me, others weren't as lucky). While Vx was at the mob site, some dentist he saw there decided that he needed to come back home and get 4 root canals done before he goes to Iraqistan. He came home at the start of the first event, since he was still on active duty, he had to report to Warriors most days, the dental work took about 2 weeks just to get started, the dentist he was sent to (clinic called My Dentist, I know there's a few locations in this area) tried to spread out the work, Vx told him to just get it done as quick as they can, everything was finally finished up last week, and he was told he should be going to mob site later this week, but he still doesn't have orders.

1. Let's hope there's no bad weather in our area or anywhere he's flying to this time! This was the reason he didn't leave the day he was supposed to last time, in September when Atlanta, GA had some storms, that was his connection. Flights there were combined into his flight which was delayed, so we waited to get to the airport too long.

2. Despite our airport "not being busy" he will get there 1 1/2-2 hrs early! He will not wait until the last fuckin minute to go through security, I will remind him that he's not "special" he has to take off his shoes just like everybody else, and because of this "delay" they almost gave his seat away the second time!

3. If he gets bored, he better not get the idea to see any doctors, especially the dentist. If the dentist doesn't like this recent work, he better fix it himself or learn to like it. Mob site dentist didn't like the work that the dentist at Ft. Leonard Wood did, but he was too lazy or "not qualified" to fix it himself, so instead he sent Vx back home.

In other shitty news, Vx isn't getting his promotion. Changes were made, despite having the points, he can't be promoted unless his unit needs someone of that particular rank, and Warriors (I assume Salsa as well) CBRN is a slot only for his current rank. He wants to go back to Warriors after this deployment, the closest units are a few hours away, he doesn't want to drive that far for drill, but it looks like that's what he'll have to do.
