high school graduations

So, I set an alarm for 2pm, I didn't actually get outta bed til about 4:45pm when Vx called me, he wanted to leave our place by 6 to get to his nephew's graduation, so I rushed around to eat a granola bar, shower, tried to squeeze into the outfit I wore to Vx's basic graduation (skirt didn't fit, but the top did), threw some khaki's on, wore contacts (don't wear them very often), he showered, threw his class a's on and we hit the road. On our way there I put some makeup on. I worried Vx would be out of place or overdressed, but there were 2 other's there in acu's and I lost count after about 7 people thanked him. Probably the same thing the other two dealt with. In their typical fashion, my mil and osil (older sis in law) were late, so we couldn't get seats at all, but we were able to stand together. At my graduation, there were 57 of us, this one definitely had more, we walked in one at a time, while two lines walked in from one side, two lines from the other side. We did a picture presentation, gave flowers out to people, our choir performed a song (our band director and the choir director were out of town at their daughter's college graduation when ours was happening so I didn't get to play at mine), their choir did the national anthem and a song while their band played before the ceremony, we had 3 or 4 speeches, they had 1, it took maybe 10 minutes to get our diplomas, we stepped outside about 30 minutes in after the nephew got his, we had ours in the school gym, they rented a near by event center for theirs and both lasted for about the same amount of time (maybe theirs was a little shorter). I know many schools rent the event center I work at for their proms and graduations, but man, I thought those schools had it better off, more students and possible friendships, more choices in classes, living closer to a big city, I guess the downfall of those places is the long graduation ceremonies. We did go to "dinner" afterwards, I'll eat the leftovers later. It had been a long time since I had Chili's, I usually order the chicken crispers, I think they use the same batter on the chicken that is used on funnel cakes, taste really good.

which unit?

Vx is getting promoted to color sargent for warriors. While that may not seem odd to some, take this into consideration: color sargent carries the unit flag when needed, this is a unit that he's not a member of. Apparently no one else in the unit wants to do all the flag stuff, so the 2 soldiers that RST w/the unit are in charge of the whole thing. Vx and Boston used to be in warriors, and after this supposed deployment, Vx is coming back to warriors and Boston is going somewhere else. Now Vx is being told that he's gonna spend a month w/salsa. The last time he was supposed to go somewhere for a month, he was home again 3 days later, other times he was supposed to go somewhere else to do something, that didn't happen at all, so I'm not holding my breath. The other day was his anniversary in the Army, yay.

In other news, my car was one of the vehicles recalled, I took it to a nearby dealership, they fixed that particular problem and informed me of another recall on my vehicle, something to do w/the steering. The plan is to drop it off at the dealership on Thursday morning, the car needs to cool off before they can fix it, and then we should be able to pick it up when Vx gets a lunch break.

I still haven't call that boss f/FMT about the summer job. They're already on lock-down, but the job I'm wanting to do usually doesn't get started up until closer to race time, so hopefully I won't be calling too late. The bs that happened last summer is partly the reason I hesitate to call this boss, but my MIL told my mom about some stuff that's happening at ES, sounded like I shouldn't be involved on that side this summer, and I don't want to deal w/the cold like that boss was wanting me to do.

ch-ch-ch-changes

I thought I would make an official post to some changes I made to this lovely blog this evening or whatever you want to call it. On the right side above my profile, you will notice a signature, if you click on it, it will take you to my first post, the intro. I also added 3 people to the intro that I thought would come up in future posts. That's all the changes I'll make for now (don't want to mess up anything I can't fix back), but like I said on that post, stay tuned...

Making of a Military Wife

A myspace friend sent this as a bulletin, so I'm reposting it here:

Making of a Military Wife

When the good Lord was creating Wives, he was into his sixth day of overtime.

An angel appeared and said, "You're having a lot of trouble with this one. What's wrong with the standard model?"

And the Lord replied, "Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, but must be sponsored to get on post; have the qualities of both father and mother during deployments; be a perfect hostess to 4 or 40; run on black coffee; handle emergencies without a manual; be able to handle flu, birthdays and moves around the world; have a kiss that can cure anything from a child's torn Valentine to a husband's weary day; have the patience of a saint when waiting for the Unit to return home; and have six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her hand slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands... no way!"

And the Lord answered, "Don't worry, we'll make other military wives to help. Besides it's not the hands that are causing the problem, it's the heart. It must swell with pride in her husband, sustain the ache of separations, beat on soundly when it's too tired to do so and be large enough to say, "I Understand" when she doesn't, and 'I love you' regardless."

"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve gently. "Come to bed... finish this tomorrow!"

"I can't," said the Lord. "I'm so close to creating something unique. Already I have one who heals herself when she's sick, can feed three unexpected guests who are stuck in the area due to bad weather, and can wave good-bye to her husband, from a pier, off a runway and understand that it is important to his country that he leaves."

The angel circled the model of the military wife very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.

"But tough," said the Lord excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this woman can do or endure."

"Can it think?"

"Can it think? It can convert 1400 to 2 p.m."

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model."

"It's not a leak," said the Lord. "It's a tear."

"What's it for?" asked the angel.

"It's for joy. Sadness. Disappointment. Pain, loneliness and pride!"

"You are a genius," sighed the angel.

The Lord looked somber and replied, "I didn't put it there."

Army news

Recently a news story came out about a soldier killing several other soldiers at a mental health clinic.

Soldier charged in comrades' deaths showed stress

The thing that really bothers me about this story, he's on his third deployment! As a wife of a soldier whose been trying to get deployed for the first time, this really pisses me off! I don't know what his rank was, but if he was sent because of his specific job, then that's bs! Vx was sent to a school last month for a "dead MOS" just so he could deploy w/Salsa, and while the whole school issue didn't work out (not his fault), I guess they've decided to go ahead and take him as another CBRN for the unit because of his saw skills. Vx was also supposed to go to a school that would have helped him get a higher rank back in February, but that didn't happen either. I hope news stories of soldier w/many deployments wakes the Army up! Send soldiers w/no deployments before sending others again! Not everyone wants to, or should be deployed multiple times or have their tours extended, send someone to replace them that hasn't been there yet, those soldiers are out there ready to go fight for their country. I know it's not just the Army, my cousin (whose a Marine) was extended, and now that his enlistment is up, he's out of the Marines. I also know of another soldier who was deployed at least twice and now he's out as well. That kind of stuff is also costing our military people. If people keep leaving because of the shit they have to deal with, then who's going to replace the "higher ups" when they retire or are unable to stay in the service?

uh...

I want to write a post, I have a few things I'd like to write about, but none of them would probably be the appropriate length for an individual entry, so I'll try just sticking all of them in one (hopefully not too) long post.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day: It's today, so a happy day to all of us!

Star Trek: OMG, the movie was awesome! Like I told the people in line for the 9:30 showing, great movie! If your like myself, wondering how certain things are going to work out (like having Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto playing the same character, where this Nero character came from, etc.) it is all explained in the movie very well. I will add, poor Porthos! (if you watched Enterprise, you'll understand this part better than some). The line was not as dorky as I feared, while I was leaving the 7pm showing, there was at least one starfleet uniform (TNG red) in line for 9:30, and I didn't spot any at the 7pm showing. I did wear my Enterprise necklace, but since it's so small, I don't think anyone noticed.

Sleep schedule: I've been sleeping at night, not good since the overnight shifts are about to start up again. It's almost 4 am as I type this, the latest I've been able to stay awake in a while, so hopefully this will help out. Current (ES) boss wants me to work for her, but I don't think I can handle the cold she wants me to deal with, so I need to talk to FMT boss about working w/him again, it's not as cold, and hopefully not as much bs as last summer. It is 2 months of steady work, ES probably won't be able to pull that off.

Medical: I read a post from someone earlier, she mentioned the dentist, and it reminded me of all the medical stuff I need to do. At my last cleaning, the hygenist thought I either broke a piece of my jaw off or I had a rougue tooth, so I need to see a dentist about that, and the wisdom teeth she thought may need to get pulled. This hygenist works for a dental clinic that a dentist only see's adult patients on an emergency walk-in basis, but I got the hygenist from hell at the last dentist I saw and they are such a huge part of the exam, so idk what to do for sure about that. It's also time for my eye dr. appt, but since I still have a gillion contacts left, I'm not really concerned about that one, even if it is the best and closest dr. I have. It's funny considering it used to be in reverse, hated eye dr, loved dentist. I also need to try again to see someone about my head, that one is a real pain literally, but I'm not getting better in that department! It would be nice to get my pins removed, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. To put it simply, I need health insurance so I don't have to keep waiting 6 weeks to see someone about my head, these pins can be removed easier, and that may also help with the dentist part as well.

I'm tired of always complaining about my life, but everything I've been trying to do about it isn't working! I hate everything!

Gun show

What a weekend! I worked a gun show I've never worked at before, different building, different people running it, different dealers, but for the most part, same rules. As with many other gun shows, you'll see many acu-looking uniforms being worn, mainly violating ar670-1 (Vx's favorite rule), other military themed items (Vx bought some acu sunglasses), and how could I forget the one person I had trouble w/Saturday, a Blue Star Mom. She gave me the titanium excuse, my response, "So do I, I still can't let you in." Dealers were only allowed to use my door if they had a note, she didn't. I hate to think those kind of hateful people are the very ones who send our husbands and other military personnel care packages. I reported her to another security guard, idk if he reported her to the show, but he did talk to the others at her table and they apologized for her. Folks, just because there is a door there doesn't mean that you can exit out of it, many are there simply to make fire marshalls happy, we did have flag rope tied in front of it, which may have discouraged some, but it was loose enough that you could escape out those doors incase of a fire, and people that were allowed to use the doors were still able to. At guns shows in particular, how people enter and exit has to be monitored closely, guns have to be checked both times, tied, they can't be loaded, and the ones purchased have to be marked to leave the building. A gun was stolen this weekend, but the person was caught at the door, arrested, and the gun was returned to the dealer. This show was one of the smaller ones, so there wasn't as many crazy people there, but still interesting. I'm glad the hours were short, 8 hrs Sat. and 6 Sun., I wasn't feeling good all weekend, so it helped.

I better call the boss in that other department if I want to work there, I'm not too crazy about doing that job, but it is the best option, and it is 2 months steady work.

One good thing about the short hours, I got home just in time to see the Kentucky Derby! What a good race! I know my mom was hoping the winner would win and my brother bet on that horse as well. It's jockey was the same one that rode last year's winner, so you know he has to be pleased. What a great race!
