MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

This week’s questions are:

1. What is the longest road trip you've ever taken?
Montana, according to google maps, the distance between the small town I grew up in and one of the places in Montana I remember visiting a few times as a kid is about 1500 miles one way, & (mostly) my dad drove it in a few days. It was a long trip, but we would stop in several towns along the way, sight see, stay the night, etc.

2. Do you collect anything? Tell us a bit about it.
I used to collect bicentenial quarters, I have some shirts from bands, I'm sure there are things I collect, but they don't come to mind right now.

3. What is your favorite part about being an adult?
What?!?! Your calling me that A word? If being that A word means legally going to all concerts, driving, buying liquor, going to bars, clubs, casinos, etc. then I will continue being that A word.

4. What song brings a tear to your eye?
Different songs bring tears to my eyes at different times, there's not one song that does it all the time.

5. Describe your first plane ride (how old you were, where you were heading, etc).
Despite my dad working for an airlines growing up, my first flight was after leaving his home, at 20. My friend in Arizona was getting married, I was her maid of honor, and since there are very few direct flights out of Tulsa, OK, my first flight was from there to Dallas, TX. A few hours later, my second flight was from DFW to Tucson, AZ. The flight to Dallas was delayed, but the person at the gate was able to get me a seat on a later flight to Tucson, I missed the wedding shower because of this. The 3 trips I've taken trips by plane (4 flights each trip), at least one flight has always been delayed, so don't fly with me if that bothers you.

Have a great weekend!

Six Word Saturday

Thank god this week is over!

My boss apparently forgot about me, her manners, and how to return voicemails. All this because I took time off after my husband had surgery? You can read some more details about this here.

Have a great weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins

This week’s questions are:
1. What is the silliest get-up you have ever worn outside of a Halloween party? (from To The Nth)
I feel silly wearing 3 layers of clothes to work when its 100 degrees outside. I once wore gloves with short sleeves because my hands were sunburned and I couldn't find any sunscreen.

2. What is something that you gave up in order to live the military lifestyle? (from Pennies from Heaven)
The ability to plan out things.

3. If money wasn’t a factor and you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why? (from Life and Times of a Displaced Jersey Girl)
New Girl on Post has helped to grow my fascination of Italy (where her & her husband are stationed). I never thought about that country much until I started reading her stuff (she's also from the same state that I'm from, which might help). I've also been interested in England, and I once went through a "Japan would be cool!" phase. Reasons: As a picky eater, I know I'd be in heaven in Italy, since I practically live on italian food. England seemed like a neat place because of the queen, they speak English (I know it's different than the English spoken in the USA, but there wouldn't be the language barrier as bad there). Most of my fascination for Japan was for a few smaller reasons; one of the kids I graduated with (we were both at the same school from Kindergarten to Senior Year), his dad played baseball in Japan, among other US places before he retired. Also the Winter Olympics were held in Nagano in 1998.

4. If you were going to join the military, what branch would you join? Or which MOS/rating would you choose? (from Anonymous)
I know other branches have this job, but the information I just found on a google search showed Army MOS's 46Q: Journalist or 46R: Broadcast Journalist. My dream job since I was 15? was to work in radio, both of these are similar to that (especially 46R). I'm a shy person, so being on tv doesn't appeal to me, but I would like to work behind the scenes (I've interviewed for Master Control a few times, they make sure programs, movies, commercials, interviews and footage for news stories, sound bytes, Wx break-ins, etc. are displayed on the screen at the right times. I also wouldn't mind talking on mic for radio, if I'm in a studio by myself, I can talk, no shy-issues for that. 46Q's seem to mainly write press releases and release photographs, while those are things I'm not into as much, it would be more behind the scenes, and close enough.

5. What is your favorite thing to make for dinner? (from Armendinger Party of 4)
Me? Cook? LMAO!!!
Most of my cooking is tuna/chicken helper, or other box meals with everything (or most everything) included.
I have made a decent pizza before, it was cheese, store-bought crust, and leftover marinara sauce Vx had made.

That was fun, as always! To play along, click on the picture at the top of this post or on the left sidebar. Hope you have a good weekend!

F* my boss

So Big Event #1 starts tomorrow, guess who still hasn't heard a work f/her boss???

I'm sorry my husband decided to have surgery right when a horse show was starting.

I'm sorry he couldn't move around, let alone change his ice packs every hour or so, get some water and food for himself, make sure he didn't overdose on pain pills, or get up to pee by himself.

I told you I couldn't work that night, but you "desperately needed me" so you called me after I finally went to sleep. I received your message when I woke up, and figured since it was about midnight, you'd be asleep.

I'm sorry you feel that it's more important to have your nieces, daughter, sisters, their husbands, and someone that's renting a house from you work than the rest of us.

I'm sorry that you get pissed off when someone else needs time off for a family member, to attend their high school reunion (like my MIL), etc, we don't get mad at you when you run off to Vegas, Disneyland, hospital for your granddaughter's birth, or to visit one of your gillions of kids that live further away.

I realize there have been cut backs, but you could have had me do my old jobs, or the job I was supposed to do last year. You had your niece do two jobs at the same time last year, one of them being my old job, the other the one I was supposed to do. While one of my old jobs was extended last year, this year it seems like its shorter this time.

Isn't nepotism against the law? My employers do seem to get around laws a lot of times, unfortunately. I guess that's a benefit of working for the city/county.

I was only supposed to do this job until I got one in radio or television, but apparently, I can't get a job on my own.

I'm glad mom got me that one when she did, if not I wouldn't have met Buddy or Vx.

No porta-potty hell this year, that's a nice thought.

But the money I made is a nicer thought. There's still a small chance I could work, but my hopes aren't very high.

Six Word Saturday

It's Six Word Saturday!

Big event #1 is coming!

The event I love/hate starts Thursday, the boss still hasn't contacted me about it. I met my husband at this event 5 years ago, I had my car wreck driving to work during this event 3 years ago. I enjoy the big paycheck, but not the general public who doesn't want to follow the rules and leave the building/tent at closing time. I've seen some awesome bands perform the last 2 years (Flyleaf and Shinedown), last year there was some bad flooding in my tent, the year before that, porta potties full to the rim one night *shudders*.

Hope your weekend's going well!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins

The Friday fun has returned once again!

This week’s questions are:

1. What characteristic about yourself has either been strengthened or weakened due to your experience as a Military Spouse? (from The Albrecht Squad)
About 3 weeks before the wedding, I was in a bad car wreck, so characteristics that have both strengthened and weakened me, I can't always pinpoint what has caused it.

Did that make any sense?

2. What is your favorite vacation spot and why? (from ‘Tis the Life of the Army Wife)
The last vacation I went on was the best and most enjoyable trip I think I've ever been on, Washington state. It was our "honeymoon" 8 months after the wedding. Like I mentioned in #1 I was in a bad car wreck before the wedding, and our planned destination was real close to where his AT was, so it worked out well for him, and I was able to get time off from the track.

3. If you could have any fast-food restaurant in the food court on base/post what would you pick? (from The Only Pink in a House of Blue)
The only food court I've been to on a base/post is the one at FLW. There was an italian place there, which would probably be my choice. One of the nearby malls has a Sonic in the food court, if there wasn't a Sonic near a base/post, then that would be a nice choice as well.

4. Where did you go on your honeymoon?  (from Pennies from Heaven)
Washington state. We visited his father and younger sister, walked around Seattle, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, (I did have to take a lot of tylenol on that trip!) and went to Ocean Shore, the first "real" beach I've ever been to!

5. If you could have any job in the world regardless of money, degree or experience, which job would you have and why? (from Proud to Be a Navy Family and The Calm Before The Storm)
I guess the job I went to school for, on-air personality for a radio station. It's not a high-paying job, you do it because you love working around music, or talking to people. While I'm not a talker, I love being around music.

I'll admit #'s 1, 2, & 4 do kinda go together for me this week, those were easy while #5 was tough for me. Visit Wifey's blog to play along, just click on the picture at the top of this post, or on the left sidebar.

Yikes!

This was originally intended to be a Random Tuesday Thoughts post, but I didn't publish it, so now it's a "normal" post.

According to big event #1's website, about 8 Days, 14 Hours, 56 Minutes, 50 Seconds until it officially starts, but who's counting?

I'm excited.

Send me to the nuthouse.

NOW!!!

I still have no clue what task I will be performing, job I did last 2 years has been eliminated, previous jobs have been taken over, so who knows.

Also come November it will slow down again, this time I need to get a real job, I've said that the last several years but didn't/couldn't so this year I HAVE TO!

This financial bullshit can't continue any longer!

A few weeks ago (give or take), Vx's unit held a board, he keeps checking his AKO excessively! To be in his unit, they are supposed to be E5 or higher, Vx and a few others were E4's, Vx has the points now (last board, not all his points were counted, now they should be), I assume the same for the others, so he should be Sargent soon, and hopefully WLC & the teaching classes will follow as well.

Since the new fiscal year should have either already started, or is about to start, please let there be no more drill/pay issues! If someone decides they want him to deploy w/them, they will actually let him deploy w/them (instead of using up all his active days preparing for nothing).

No more useless gear taking up every inch of our bedroom! It's better now that most everything's stacked in either plastic containers or out of the way at least, and more of the non-Army crap is in his storage unit, but its still crowded.

I'm still struggling to stay awake as early late as I need to. It's about 6:30 and I want to go to sleep. Depending on the job I do for big event #1, I may get to leave around 7am, I may have to stay until about 11:30am.

I'll quit before my head starts typing.

Six Word Saturday

It's everyone's favorite day! Which mean's it also...

It's very simple (so easy a caveman can do it!) describe something in 6 words, this week's words:

Drill weekend attire for Vx: marshmallows!

Since his current unit's drills are mostly conference calls (speaking of which, one's about to start), he's wearing his army sweats (marshmallows). It's chilly in the apartment since the a/c's blowing, while the living room and our bedroom are freezing cold, mom's room isn't, so we have to freeze so her and her bf aren't sweating like pigs. Lovely visual indeed.

To play along (pictures and visuals optional) visit Call Me Cate's blog by clicking the picture above or on the left sidebar, use her Mr. Linky and leave her some well deserved love in the comments (if you don't, she might stick Tonya on you, something you don't want to happen).

Have a great weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins

It's Friday again, so let's learn something new about each other!

This week’s questions are:

1. How do you spend your deployment money, do you save, pay off bills or enjoy the extra money while it is there to buy the things you do not normally have? (from Troop Petrie)
N/A

2. If you could relive one occasion or moment, what would it be? (from Currently On Land)
Since I have very few memories from it, our wedding seems like a good choice. This time, without the wheelchair (I'll have to find something old, borrowed, and blue), withdrawals, this time my brother & a few other family members & friends will be in attendance, and I'll actually walk down the aisle (instead of mom pushing me down it). Although, that's the only time my husband got down on one knee in front of me...

3. What’s the worst job you ever had and if it was so bad why did you take it? (from Faith and Deploying)
Certain tasks at my current job make it the worst job I've had. The good stuff and the pay make up for it. I also haven't had a whole lot of jobs, the ones I've had were pretty good ones at the time, so I can't complain too much about the ones I've had. Finding one on the other hand hasn't been as easy, I've never had a job that I applied or interviewed for, all but my current one was given to me, my mom got me hired on at the current one, then I proved myself.

4. If you could play any character on TV, who would you be?  (from Many Waters)
I kinda like the characters William Shatner has played on tv, but I know he's the reason why those characters are great, and me playing them wouldn't be the same.

5. If you could become the world’s expert in something, what would it be? (from Army of Two)
Music? I really don't know, there's nothing I know enough about to feel like an expert.

My Thursday night is sucking, so hopefully Friday and this weekend will be better for me and great for everyone else!

Random Tuesday Thoughts

After forgetting a brief hiatus last week, guess what's back?

randomtuesday

I spent the weekend watching model airplanes that look like military planes fly. In other words, a bunch of grown men playing with toys. One had a plane set up so he could kill the engine and have it say, "Which way to Ireland?" from the movie The Spirit of Saint Louis. I saw why my husband was making a big deal about the name of his plane, most P-51's there were named Big Beautiful Doll. Saturday was windy when I was there, so he didn't fly the F-15 then (made of foam), but I saw it fly Sunday. I saw why he'd also like a rock crawler to haul the P-51 to the runway, there were bigger planes there being pushed and pulled by several people. I told him I would drive it, that way when he's flying, I can drive it off the runway.
Yesterday, I think the cat scratched me the worst she ever has. There's a scratch on my right arm by my wrist, bloody and puffy looking.

Also, I took my mom's bf to pick up his semi truck, you would think a place that repairs semi's, dump trucks and other large vehicles would have better parking then the tight space I had to squeeze into. At least their workers come out and help you back out of their driveway onto the street. I assume this was also the same truck mom had the dream of the three of us riding in.

He also had the joy of the cat waking him up, he didn't set my mom's alarm correctly, and his phone's ringer isn't working, so I opened the door slightly to talk to him and the cat came in. He is one of her boyfriends after all (Vx is the main one).

My sleep schedule is screwed up! I'm sleeping a few hours at night, a few during the day. Yikes! I just checked big event #1's website, I have 2 weeks to to get my sleep figured out. It says 16 days, but the boss usually starts me a day or two before. I still have no clue what I'll do this time, the job I did the last 2 years is gone, there's been cutbacks of how many people work and what hours they work, and since I haven't worked since June (when I did about 5 weeks of hours in 2, and then my husband's surgery), she may have "forgotten" about me (she does that sometimes). I also can't handle some jobs out there since I'm a smaller unarmed woman w/a bad leg.

I'm finally watching some more of my birthday present (Sex and the City Complete Series on DVD). Watching the show edited on tv is definitely not the same, some episodes weren't even shown on the station I watched them on, parts were removed for tv, either for time or content.

Part of me wants to watch The Outsiders, while part of me fears it would be too sad (this is why).

Vx met someone over the weekend that he fell in love with, a nuclear pharmacist who was visiting our area for her job. She's also into flying RC planes/helicoptors and Stargate. They found aspects of each others jobs really neat. Vx loves the fact that she gets to use this particular machine all the time and they compared radiation detectors (he has something like a watch for his, she had her rings and a pager with her).

Mom's bf got one of his vehicle windows knocked out. His insurance covered it, but it was a mess to clean up and a bit of a hassle to get it replaced. Nothing was stolen thankfully, he had a GPS and some other valuables in there.

Try to enjoy your day!
