MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. A different twist on last week’s question. This week, the first question is: what’s the nicest thing a MILSPOUSE has ever done for you? (brought to you from navy_smurfette)
At Warrior's family day over a year ago, one stood in line with me. I've had some nice comments on my blogs and twitter from some other milspouses as well. I don't encounter fellow milspouses much in the real world since we're not located near any bases & Vx's unit is several thousand miles away.

2. How often do you drive faster than the speed limit?
Since most roads and streets around me don't have speed limit signs posted (or I keep missing them), probably not very often.

3. Did you have a nickname in school? If so, what was it?
One kid I went to school with called me Crash after I had a fender-bender, he called me that off and on for years. At my tech school, a male student went by Crash, so it was a conversation starter for us, and we did end up dating for a few months after that. I also had a co-worker in the last 3 years call me Crash after my last car wreck.

4. If your life was a book, what would the title be and how would it end?
no frekin clue

5. Look back (in your planner if you have one) to September 14th… what did you do that day?
The only thing I have listed is my birth control (mine's not the daily kind).

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. What’s the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?
One instance that comes to mind was right after my accident, Vx & I were at Steak 'n Shake, he had a FLW sweatshirt on, I had my pink Army shirt on, when we were getting ready to leave, we found out that someone that left before us paid for our meal! We didn't know if it was the wheelchair (thought I was injured while deployed), or the clothes, but it was a nice gesture.

2. If you are having a hard time going to sleep, what do you do to help yourself?
Sometimes music helps me, but it can also wake me up more, so I have to be careful w/what I listen to, reading books for me can also go either way, but playing games on my phone while laying in bed seems to work.

3. Name something that makes you wish you were a kid again.
That "time of the month" I guess, I don't remember anything from my childhood that I liked so well that I want to be a kid again.

4. What is something you never believed until you experienced it?
Ghosts, never believed in them until last summer ('09) when I kept seeing a ghostly figure at my job. This is also the same job I worked at for about 60 nights straight, but I always saw it at a time of night when no one else was around, and it never looked anything like my co-worker there.

5. What can’t you say “no” to?
Not much, if anything. I've learned over the last few years how to say no, I used to be a people pleaser, almost always saying yes to everything, but my job slowed that down, and the accident really helped me to say no to things.

Not this again?!?! (AKA Update #2)

Like I ended update #1, when it rains, it pours! Now for all the Army bs...

So when my husband transferred to a new unit near the west coast, it sounded wonderful, no more deployment bs (since they don't deploy), Vx would be teaching others chemical warfare (his passion), and the unit is located near his dad & sister (in other words, he'd get to visit them on the Army's bill). In typical Army fashion, its not working out that way.

The person who got him into the unit was transferred to another unit, so her helping Vx out is gone, and the new person doesn't seem to give a shit. At his board w/warriors, he was recommended for promotion, but they didn't count all his points, so he was short. Those points were counted at the last board, but someone on that board for whatever reason didn't think Vx should be recommended for promotion. When Vx talked to his new commander a while back, he said he was recommended, but according to the email, Vx wasn't. The next board is in December, we'll see how that one goes. To be in this unit, your supposed to be an E5 or higher, Vx is an E4. He also needs to attend WLC and some other classes to stay in the unit, but the new commander won't schedule those classes for him, either. Also, someone (no clue who) decided to put Vx on a permanent profile after his surgery. He was told he can't keep his MOS w/that profile, so either that needs to get fixed, or he'll have to change MOS's (for real this time) and change units (AGAIN! This will be his 6th or 7th unit in 3 years!).

Since he doesn't know what's going on w/the Army shit, its putting so many other things in our lives on hold, again. If he gets a new job, how will that look if he has to immediately take 3 months off for his classes? What if it ends up becoming the same fiasco as last year (sent to take a class for a month, to only return home 3 days later or they try to keep him longer than a month)? What if that job for the Army he was told about a while back actually becomes a reality? It would be for about 5 months, but it would still screw up many things. I know he'd still like to get deployed, but I don't see that happening. He volunteered for deployment 3 years ago, he still hasn't been, so why would he be sent now? Army rather send someone for their gillionth time than someone who's never been, and doesn't have kids.

What Big Events? (AKA Update #1)

I guess this could be an update post from this one. Right about the time Big Event #1 started, I still hadn't heard f/my boss, so I called her, several times. One of those times someone picked up her phone and hung up on me (I assume her, but I'm giving the benefit of a doubt). I left her several voice mails that were never returned. Vx called his mom (who I work with), she said the boss wasn't calling me because I told her I didn't want to work in the arena, so she wasn't going to call me to work other posts. I SWEAR I NEVER SAID THAT TO HER! Either my memory's a lot worse than I thought it was, or she's making this up so there's more jobs available for her relatives. Before summer, my boss's sisters never worked third shift, this summer they did. A family friend of my boss (old pervert) used to get quite a few hours, his were cut back so much that he handed in his badge, uniform tops, etc. A guy that used to work on occasion started renting a house f/the boss, so she started giving him tons of hour (I assume so he can continue to pay rent) instead of others. She even cut back on MIL's hours after she took off one weekend for her high school reunion.

Big Event #2 started a few days ago, and still nothing. Most people that work there have other jobs, and they use their vacation days for Big Event #1, so that leave some openings for Big Event #2, but I still haven't heard anything from her. This show actually uses the heat settings, but I guess she still "forgot" about me.

While this one event in November is not technically big, because of what the event is about (guns, knives, etc.), it does involve lots of workers. I bet she doesn't "forget" me when its time for that show! But, it's always freezing cold at the door she has me sit at, so who the fuck knows.

3 years ago (before event #2 was held at my job), the plan was for me to get a "real" job after event #1, but I had my car wreck during it, and wasn't fully recovered f/it until summer time, when work picks up again (it slows down after big events until April or May). The plan kept rolling over to after the big events every year since then, but it never happened for various reasons.

This year, it has to happen for real!

When it rains, it pours! Stay tuned for Update #2 to find out what else is going on.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. Are you a night owl or an early bird?
Night owl! I usually work third shift and I love it!

2. What makes you jealous?
Back in June when I was working in a very cold building, I was jealous of all my co-workers who were outside in the warmth and the ones that could wear shorts while I had thermals under my jeans.

3. Have you started Christmas/holiday shopping yet? When will you finish? (There's only 63 days left!)
Christmas is coming? I thought it was Halloween, oh well.

4. What would you have a personal chef make you tonight?
I have a personaly chef (Vx), I think he's making hamburgers.

5. Where was your first kiss?
The old elementary playground, it was during recess in second grade, Jeff and I were boyfriend/girlfriend, another boy named Chris asked all the kids on the merry-go-round, "Who wants to see Jeff kiss (me)?" some kids raised their hands, and he kissed me. Then the question was reversed, kids rose their hands, and I kissed him. Another kid that saw this told on us. The next day, we had to bring a note f/home explaining that our parents talked to us about the incident, since Jeff usually walked home, my mom gave him a ride that afternoon and talked to both of us about the incident. I guess he didn't tell his parents or bring a note the next day, because him and Chris got swats, while I didn't.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

It's MilSpouse Friday Fill-In! I struggled w/this week's questions...

1. What are some things on your bucket list? (from New Girl on Post)
I don't really have one, I have some goals that (right now) don't seem obtainable, but they are more "achieve these very soon" more than "give yourself 20 years" type of things.

2. How long have you been a MilSpouse and where have you been stationed so far? (from Raising Roscoe)
It will be 3 years on the 27th of October. First unit was 6 miles away from our home in Oklahoma, that unit was dismantled and combined w/a unit in Arkansas (about a 2 hour drive), next unit (warriors) was at the same place as the first one (6 miles away), after that (salsa) was in Texas, when deployment orders were cancelled, he returned to warriors, now his unit is in Washington state, near his dad and younger sister. Being "part-time Reservist", my husband doesn't have to move around when he changes units, and since every unit's supposed to have a CBRN, he can RST w/warriors or other nearby units on their drill weekends if he's not teaching classes or training for his unit.

3. What is a list of songs that sums up your life so far? (from Confessions of a Sailor's Wife)
I'm not sure, usually what I think songs mean aren't really the meanings, or one lyric would describe me, but another doesn't.

4. What is your favorite kind of pizza?
Hamburger is my top favorite, I also like pizza w/meatballs, chicken, sausage, canadian bacon & pineapple, and chicken alfredo pizza. I like to dunk my pizza in marinara sauce as well (or alfredo sauce for chicken alfredo).

5. What are three good things in your life right now?
1. The cat is behaving herself
2. Vx and I are getting along
3. I'm not working outdoors in the cold

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

This week’s questions are:

1. What is the longest road trip you've ever taken?
Montana, according to google maps, the distance between the small town I grew up in and one of the places in Montana I remember visiting a few times as a kid is about 1500 miles one way, & (mostly) my dad drove it in a few days. It was a long trip, but we would stop in several towns along the way, sight see, stay the night, etc.

2. Do you collect anything? Tell us a bit about it.
I used to collect bicentenial quarters, I have some shirts from bands, I'm sure there are things I collect, but they don't come to mind right now.

3. What is your favorite part about being an adult?
What?!?! Your calling me that A word? If being that A word means legally going to all concerts, driving, buying liquor, going to bars, clubs, casinos, etc. then I will continue being that A word.

4. What song brings a tear to your eye?
Different songs bring tears to my eyes at different times, there's not one song that does it all the time.

5. Describe your first plane ride (how old you were, where you were heading, etc).
Despite my dad working for an airlines growing up, my first flight was after leaving his home, at 20. My friend in Arizona was getting married, I was her maid of honor, and since there are very few direct flights out of Tulsa, OK, my first flight was from there to Dallas, TX. A few hours later, my second flight was from DFW to Tucson, AZ. The flight to Dallas was delayed, but the person at the gate was able to get me a seat on a later flight to Tucson, I missed the wedding shower because of this. The 3 trips I've taken trips by plane (4 flights each trip), at least one flight has always been delayed, so don't fly with me if that bothers you.

Have a great weekend!

Six Word Saturday

Thank god this week is over!

My boss apparently forgot about me, her manners, and how to return voicemails. All this because I took time off after my husband had surgery? You can read some more details about this here.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins

This week’s questions are:
1. What is the silliest get-up you have ever worn outside of a Halloween party? (from To The Nth)
I feel silly wearing 3 layers of clothes to work when its 100 degrees outside. I once wore gloves with short sleeves because my hands were sunburned and I couldn't find any sunscreen.

2. What is something that you gave up in order to live the military lifestyle? (from Pennies from Heaven)
The ability to plan out things.

3. If money wasn’t a factor and you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why? (from Life and Times of a Displaced Jersey Girl)
New Girl on Post has helped to grow my fascination of Italy (where her & her husband are stationed). I never thought about that country much until I started reading her stuff (she's also from the same state that I'm from, which might help). I've also been interested in England, and I once went through a "Japan would be cool!" phase. Reasons: As a picky eater, I know I'd be in heaven in Italy, since I practically live on italian food. England seemed like a neat place because of the queen, they speak English (I know it's different than the English spoken in the USA, but there wouldn't be the language barrier as bad there). Most of my fascination for Japan was for a few smaller reasons; one of the kids I graduated with (we were both at the same school from Kindergarten to Senior Year), his dad played baseball in Japan, among other US places before he retired. Also the Winter Olympics were held in Nagano in 1998.

4. If you were going to join the military, what branch would you join? Or which MOS/rating would you choose? (from Anonymous)
I know other branches have this job, but the information I just found on a google search showed Army MOS's 46Q: Journalist or 46R: Broadcast Journalist. My dream job since I was 15? was to work in radio, both of these are similar to that (especially 46R). I'm a shy person, so being on tv doesn't appeal to me, but I would like to work behind the scenes (I've interviewed for Master Control a few times, they make sure programs, movies, commercials, interviews and footage for news stories, sound bytes, Wx break-ins, etc. are displayed on the screen at the right times. I also wouldn't mind talking on mic for radio, if I'm in a studio by myself, I can talk, no shy-issues for that. 46Q's seem to mainly write press releases and release photographs, while those are things I'm not into as much, it would be more behind the scenes, and close enough.

5. What is your favorite thing to make for dinner? (from Armendinger Party of 4)
Me? Cook? LMAO!!!
Most of my cooking is tuna/chicken helper, or other box meals with everything (or most everything) included.
I have made a decent pizza before, it was cheese, store-bought crust, and leftover marinara sauce Vx had made.

That was fun, as always! To play along, click on the picture at the top of this post or on the left sidebar. Hope you have a good weekend!

F* my boss

So Big Event #1 starts tomorrow, guess who still hasn't heard a work f/her boss???

I'm sorry my husband decided to have surgery right when a horse show was starting.

I'm sorry he couldn't move around, let alone change his ice packs every hour or so, get some water and food for himself, make sure he didn't overdose on pain pills, or get up to pee by himself.

I told you I couldn't work that night, but you "desperately needed me" so you called me after I finally went to sleep. I received your message when I woke up, and figured since it was about midnight, you'd be asleep.

I'm sorry you feel that it's more important to have your nieces, daughter, sisters, their husbands, and someone that's renting a house from you work than the rest of us.

I'm sorry that you get pissed off when someone else needs time off for a family member, to attend their high school reunion (like my MIL), etc, we don't get mad at you when you run off to Vegas, Disneyland, hospital for your granddaughter's birth, or to visit one of your gillions of kids that live further away.

I realize there have been cut backs, but you could have had me do my old jobs, or the job I was supposed to do last year. You had your niece do two jobs at the same time last year, one of them being my old job, the other the one I was supposed to do. While one of my old jobs was extended last year, this year it seems like its shorter this time.

Isn't nepotism against the law? My employers do seem to get around laws a lot of times, unfortunately. I guess that's a benefit of working for the city/county.

I was only supposed to do this job until I got one in radio or television, but apparently, I can't get a job on my own.

I'm glad mom got me that one when she did, if not I wouldn't have met Buddy or Vx.

No porta-potty hell this year, that's a nice thought.

But the money I made is a nicer thought. There's still a small chance I could work, but my hopes aren't very high.
