MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

It's been a while since I've filled out one of these, so here I am!

This week, it's all about the "or's"... just make sure you tell us why!

1. Facebook or Twitter?

If I get a job w/the hockey team (I have some kind of phone thing w/the GM Thursday, not sure if its an interview, offer for some type of job, or a nice way to break the bad news to me) then Facebook all the way! If not, then I'll return to my usual answer, twitter. I feel I have more privacy on twitter since its mainly limited to words you type at that moment (not as much on pictures, stats, etc.), but my facebook posts about the team could land me a job, so we'll see!

2. Hard Tacos or Soft Tacos?
At a restaurant, I LOVE hard tacos, but at home, soft since the shells are usually broken for the ones you buy at the store.

3. Gardening or crafting?
I'm not very good or even interested in either, but crafting seems like a better choice out of the 2. No green thumb for me!

4. Fruit or vegetables?
My sweet tooth definitely wants fruits more!

5. Motorcycle or bicycle?
Bicycle for sure! I hate riding on motorcycles, I've dated both types of riders, Vx owns both, but I never ride w/him. Last time I rode a bicycle was a stationery one in physical therapy 3 or 4 years ago, motorcycle has probably been about that long as well.

It's good to be back! Summer dept. is over now, I did get some extra hours at the end, which helps since Vx has been too sick to work f/his kidney stone (it came out, either in 2 pieces, or 2 different ones formed this time, which could explain why this smaller one was so much worse than the others, he has a dr. appt. coming up to determine more & a plan to reduce or eliminate them). I'm looking for a new job, I've been focusing my search more on what I went to school for many years ago, but the pickings are slimmer this time around then they were when I was fresh out of school. Wish us luck!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. Are you a different person than you were five years ago? submitted by Sisterly Thoughts
Some, mostly small things, but overall, I think I'm pretty much the same person.

2. If you could go on Amazing Race, who would you take with you as your partner and why? submitted by Thoughts from a Poekitten
Idk, Vx would drive me nuts! I don't really know any good travel companions.

3. Does Facebook or Twitter actually bring more stress or good in to your life? submitted byJust an Arizona Girl
A little of both, the drama queen in-laws I have can ruin facebook for me at times, but when I'm on there playing games or doing posts for the hockey team, I love it! Twitter can be the same way for me, I follow people I like most of the time, but there are moments when they're griping about something that annoys me, I don't share their opinions, or if I'm following along tweets about a sporting event where most of the people I follow are on the other side. Overall, I think both sites are great to have!

4. June is National Soul Food Month- what’s your soul food? submitted by NH Girl Displaced
I guess pizza

5. If you could live in any other era than the current, which one would it be & why? submitted by Sugar in My Grits
Maybe the 70's, idk. It seems like a lot of music & fashion that I like are based on that era.

Monday

My blogging skills suck, the last real post (not including MFF) was in February, So here I am, with updates!

Early March, I did some color commentary during a hockey game, I froze up on the air, things I wanted to talk about didn't seem appropriate at the time, it didn't go well. Luckily, I was able to crack a few jokes, & a suspended player was also up there, so he filled in the rest of the time. A few weeks later, "my boss" filled in for the arena announcer, the person who was supposed to cover play-by-play for him didn't show up. Game time came, he still wasn't there, so I put the headset on & did my best. Apparently, people liked it! I know the GM & "my boss" were grateful I stepped up instead of broadcasting dead air, but one man left a comment on the team's facebook page stating he liked the young lady who called the game, also over the weekend the woman in charge of the facebook pages said she received several messages from people who liked me as well!

My play-by-play was NOT exactly how its supposed to be done, I had the microphone volume too high so I didn't feel like I was screaming over the largest crowd of the season (fewer listeners); the man on facebook liked hearing the background noises. I didn't talk as much as I should have, I couldn't catch all the players who played the puck during the game, my hockey knowledge is minimal; he liked my "less is more" approach. I cracked jokes, made observations ("I wish someone would tell [visiting team city] that this is a hockey game, not a figure skating competition!" for example), once I got past the "OMG I'm doing play-by-play for a professional hockey game!" shock, it was fun!

The next day, the arena announcer was back, so "my boss" was back upstairs & another man who used to be a sports anchor was up there as well. He's been wanting to start doing play-by-play, so "my boss" had invited him to come up & hang out. Him & "my boss" did that game, he was great! Definitely better than me!

Great enough, that when the arena announcer was unable to attend this last playoff game we had, "my boss" was the arena announcer again, the former sports anchor did play-by-play by himself, while I did my job tasks, along with some of the other stuff "my boss" normally does (I did both tasks when I filled in, so less pressure on them). It was also a big game, not only was it a playoff game, it was the first playoff game series the team won since 1994, & the team went from being 0-2 to 3-2 in this series. The newspaper sent a different reporter, so I had to give him some extra attention since he's not familiar w/the building or how things normally go up there. I gave the reporter, both play-by-play broadcasters, & the tv sports dept. (on the phone) the next set of playoff dates.

The last 2 or 3 games, I have also ran the sound for the post-game show, that's the part I love the most! I get to play with pots & stare at a computer screen. I also help set up and tear down the sound for the post game, then tear down & pack up the upstairs play-by-play stuff & the officials stuff that doesn't belong to the building. Vx helps out with that some, since items are store in the locker room so I'm not having to enter while men are changing clothes.

Despite the lack of pay, I'm love doing all of this, & I'm gaining experience that should really help me out! I've also done a lot of stuff on facebook for them, like promote games & broadcasts, especially for the away games. Mine & others tweets will show up on their fan page if you @ them, so I live tweet the games as much as I can. I do this on another twitter account I have set up as my full name, those tweets automatically posts on my facebook. I don't want to steal anyone's job, but maybe all of this will lead to me either getting a job w/them, or maybe another team or organization will see what I can do. I never had a job I interviewed for, word of mouth f/my mom or someone else got me in the door & I proved myself, so maybe doing all of this will help me out as well.

Military Monday Family Blogger Carnival

Military Mondays Family and Spouse Carnival at Army Wives' Lives

Welcome to the Military Monday Family Blogger Carnival! This is my first time to join in, I hope its as much fun as @ArmyWivesLives made it out to be on twitter. This post will explain how my husband's drill weekend went over the weekend.

First off, his unit is about 2,100 miles from our home, so this weekend's activities occurred at "Fort Couch" (home). Since most everyone in his unit is like himself (live far away), they have conference call(s) on drill weekends, then they make up their drill time at a nearby unit, recruiter station, or as Vx sometimes does, funeral details & honor guard ceremonies w/a nearby unit he used to be part of (if you read some of my other posts, I call this nearby unit Warriors).

Incase the name didn't give it away, my husband Vx is a CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear, every unit's supposed to have at least one), he's a chemical warfare instructor, or he's supposed to be.

Last year right after he joined the unit, he had to have a hernia operation. This occurred right when he needed to take some classes so he could teach & go to WLC, also the unit was changing some of their higher-ups. In typical Vx fashion, nothing has worked out like it should have.

There were 2 calls this weekend instead of the normal 1, someone new mentioned that 2 of them hadn't done anything for the unit like they were supposed to, & one (Vx) has been asking about the classes every week, so hopefully the ball will finally get rolling!

One of the conference calls was a class, I don't remember the title, but both of us had the impression it was about DADT, it wasn't. I wonder if it really was supposed to be & the person got off topic or couldn't find enough info on the subject.

While he's been wearing them more lately with the cold temperatures, he usually saves his marshmallows for these type of weekends. They're so attractive & the cat (P, she's his girlfriend, & the closest thing to an Army brat we'll probably ever have) likes to knead on him when he wears them!

Before I ramble too much more or get off topic, I'll end my post for this week. Thank you for stopping by, feel free to read some of my other posts (very random topics, then there's Random Thoughts Tuesday), if you click on my name to your right, you can read an intro post I wrote about us, just feel free to make yourself at home here, no need for comments unless you really want to, just explore & have fun!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

This week's questions are:

1. Since most of the country has had nasty weather, what has your weather been like this week?
The meteorologists in the area kept saying several inches to a few feet of snow, they've said this many times in the past when we only saw a few flakes, so it was somewhat taken seriously. Late Monday night/early Tuesday morning, it starts sleeting. Tuesday, it snowed on top of ice & sleet. The official count from the airport was 14 inches, while for some that may not seem huge, we usually get a few inches that melt away in a day or two. My mom was at work Monday night/Tuesday morning, her & her truck was stuck there, Vx & her bf couldn't get their vehicles out of the parking lot Tuesday morning, my car sits low to the ground, so it wasn't getting out either. She brought extra food w/her, she had planned on mopping the floor, the guardshack doesn't have running water, so the water she didn't use was in jugs from a building that she could drink. Finally she did get a ride to the street on the west edge of our apartment complex Wednesday morning. Her bf met her at the street & they made their way through the thick snow to our apartment. Wednesday, Vx was also able to clear the snow around my car well enough to drive it out & since the major streets & highways had their snow cleared off, he was able to drive around & gather a few extra supplies. Schools have been closed since Monday afternoon, the hockey team had to reschedule their game Wednesday (other team had bad weather in their area as well), & may have to do the same w/their weekend games in Mississippi. If you follow Pioneer Woman on twitter, you may have seen that she was stuck in New York because Tulsa airport was closed, a sports broadcaster was stuck in Tennessee for the same reason, while a public speaker in my area flew out Monday ahead of the storm for her speaking engagement she had in LA Thursday.

2. What is/are your best money saving tip(s)?
Coupons and shopping the sale ads mostly. When we know there are hockey games coming in the next day or two, we'll make marinara sauce in advance (taste better after sitting in the fridge overnight for some reason) then come home & cook noodles, or buy a pizza crust & toppings so we're not as tempted to eat out. We usually snack around before the game as well, since we're sometimes there for about 6 hours & we can usually smell the expensive concession food the whole time. When we do eat out, we usually go out to places where we get a good deal. A Qdoba in our area gives a military discount (not all of them do), if the hockey team scores 4 goals that night, we can get a free burger at Jack in the Box (we usually get to visit w/some fans when we're there as well, we also order other items as well [shakes, fries, dessert, etc.]), Sonic & other fast food places also have coupon inserts on occasion. You can also join email lists/text alerts for food places, clothing stores, etc. to receive discount codes as well. Not to get too twitter crazy, but she can also help you save money. She has helped me find coupons for things we actually like & use, & provide other tips to help out (I'll warn you, she does get into christian topics at times, but if that bothers you, you can skip over those parts).

3. What was your favorite vehicle you’ve ever owned??
Despite the color, my first car, 91 Subaru Legacy. It was "ugly brown" but it sat high enough to not hit things (like I've done in my current car & the one I wrecked), I never had to worry about leaving my head lights on (as soon as the car's turned off, so were the lights), and many other things. My current car & the one I wrecked have automatic lights, which is nice, but it did cause problems at my former job (shine at inappropriate times, in horse's eyes, etc.).

4. What is a question you’d like to see asked in a future fill-in? (Your question & blog just may appear one week!)
Sometimes I have trouble answering the questions, but I can usually come up with some kind of response, a question I want asked...
Why is the sky blue?
Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
Just how many peppers did Peter Piper pick?

5. Fill in the blank: You might be a MilSpouse if…....you spent about 2 years telling people, "my husband's deploying in a few months" when in fact he didn't.
...you use a military id, but the bank teller wants a "real" id (especially when you have a special military bank account).
...there's more challenge coins laying around your home than nickels, dimes, etc.
...your husband pulls out the pro mask anytime your sick.
...your tempted to dye your pet's hair green (or blue in the future to match the Class A's).
...you know to shine the Class A shoes w/Windex.

Wow! I really must have cabin fever, look at my LONG & colorful answers! Unfortunately, I think more snow's on the way, so I should probably try to escape today w/Vx just incase.

Have a good weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. What is the best gift you have ever received or given? from Jessica Lynn Writes
Not sure, the tv was great at the time, dvd player was neat when I finally got an adapter for it, nothing else from Christmas really sticks out for me.

2. Do you celebrate holidays differently when your loved one is deployed/gone or do you keep tradition? from The Albrecht Squad

N/A

3. If you celebrate Christmas, do you put an angel, star or something else on the top of your tree?

It's kinda hard to put anything on top of a Little Debbie Christmas Tree cake

4. What are your three favorite websites?

Facebook, Twitter, & Yahoo. Some other close calls are  Philo & Foursquare. Philo and Foursquare lets you check into things (philo for tv, foursquare for physical places). I have my gmail and what little, if any aol mail forwarded to my yahoo address, so I can check (mainly) 2 email inbox's at once while checking out tv listings & other things.

5. On your man do you prefer… boxers, briefs or boxer briefs? Or commando? (yeah, I’m starting to get desperate for questions!)
While Vx never wears boxers, I've dated guys that wore boxers and I liked them. Briefs don't look right on men in my opinion, so I guess boxer briefs are my second favorite.

Have a great weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. What do you see your life like in 10 years?
I seem to have a knack for PR, so maybe I'll be doing that or some kind of social media, whatever we do, hopefully it'll be more stable for the both of us than what our life is like now.

2. What do you like most about your job?
At my former job, I loved the variety and getting to stay up all night. My "current job" as a somewhat-house wife/apparent PR  person, well, I guess the same thing, staying up all night, doing a variety of tasks.

3. What are three things you do every day, no matter what day it is?
Play with my phone, use the bathroom, pet P.

4. What would you do with an extra five hours in your day today?
Sleep? There are some tv shows online I'd like to watch, but can't seem to find the time or whatever, but idk if that would take 5 hrs or not.

5. What is your favorite Christmas (or whichever holiday  you celebrate) cookie recipe (please share!)?
Sugar cookies decorated for the holidays, frosting, sprinkles, something festive (red/green), I eat sugar cookies year round, just with different (if any) decorations, so its not really anything different.

To participate, click on one of the pictures, either at the top, or on the left sidebar.

Have a great weekend!

Me? Hockey? PR? Wow!

I wrote a little bit about this yesterday, but I'll get more into it here. So on facebook, I've been posting things about the hockey team that Vx has been flying a blimp for. Well, guess who has noticed?

The General Manager! Wow! He's not the only staff member, one night I didn't feel like coming to the game, so I stayed home and listened to it online. I said something on facebook about it, and the broadcaster friended me! We exchanged a few messages, I told him what we've been doing at the games and he told me where he sets up (an area I have access to, but most other people don't). As a former "I want to work in radio!" geek, I haven't quit screaming inside about this "friendship" since.

Back to the GM, I've posted pictures that were taken on my phone, and tagged the team, venue, Vx & I in them (the RC club doesn't have a page), he really likes that, said something about giving him lots of free PR. I don't feel like I'm putting tons of effort into all of this, like I told him, I was just posting stuff at 3 am out of boredom.

Vx now wants me to take his nice professional-like camera to the games for some really good quality pics (instead of Blackberry pics). He also keeps telling me to go hang out w/the broadcaster, I just don't feel any time would be a good time, I assume he talks before game (I tuned in part way through the 1st period), does play-by-play during the games, and talks during most of the breaks and afterwards. Vx told me not to worry about the blimp, they can handle the parts I do. I think I would like just watching him work, but it would be nice to ask questions as well, and he may want to interview me on-air or something. I also don't want to give him the impression that I'm stalking him.

Another thing that kinda concerns me, I know very little about hockey, I attended and watched my first real game about a month ago, other than those Ducks movies and the scenes from The Simpson's, Friends, & other shows that have shown hockey, my exposure has been minimal. I know some terms, but not what they really mean (like Icing), which also concerns me.

Guess I should research hockey, and hope it makes some sense. Maybe study some PR stuff online while I'm at it, get some better promotion ideas than what I came up with on my own (stuff I've seen others do that caught my attention, some things I learned studying broadcasting as well).

This could also be a stepping stone for other things as well, idk, but word of mouth can be a good thing.

Maybe my dream will finally come true...

What? A real post? Her head must be ready to explode!

Yeah, it's gonna pop any second now...

If by any chance you have missed the Funny Pet Moments posts I used to do on Thursday's before I got too busy lazy preoccupied with other business watching tv twitter, I have now added a widget to the bottom right corner that will post funny cat pictures.

I also made some changes to my sidebars, since my twitter account is currently private (dear lord, please let my MIL quit tweeting, I'm scared to go public until I know as a fact that she has given up on this, please don't change my younger SIL's mind about her account, her last tweet was something about "not getting this" from a while back, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT inform my older SIL about this as she is the last person on earth that needs a twitter account. Spare all of us her drama queen tweets!), I changed the timeline to a "follow me" button. That annoying log in pop-up should quit showing up as well. I'm sorry all my in-law drama couldn't be contained onto myspace (back in the day) and facebook (where they currently reside). I also took out some other graphics & things as well.

If you really are interested in what P is up to, she sometimes uses this website that's twitter for animals, this is her profile: http://www.petstatus.com/pthearmybratcat If your pets also use this site, she would love to chat w/them.

Blogging

I suck at it!

There are some that manage to daily (or almost daily) pop out a post, whether it be several posts typed out one day then scheduled to appear daily, or they force themselves to type one out everyday. I can't do that, my mind doesn't work that way. Well, I guess I could, but they would be posts about what I watched on tv, ate, where the cat bit/clawed me, what my husband &/or mom did that day to piss me off, etc. I'll spare you from that. If you really want to know what I have to say on a daily basis, twitter is the way to go. Short spurts of stuff, usually doesn't go together, easy enough for me to do.

If you are one of those people that would like to write daily, may I suggest some blogs and websites where you can get some inspiration?

Plinky posts daily prompts, and allows users to also suggest things. You can add photos and maps to better describe things. You can also set it up so when you fill out a prompt, it will either automatically post it to your blog or you can post it manually (this blog is manual, the one I keep private is automatic). I believe you can also set it up to post to Facebook as well, but I never do that.

The One-Minute Writer: C. Beth rocks! Last I counted she had 3 blogs, with daily entries on at least 2 of them. This one encourages people to take one minute out of your life and write about the daily prompt. There's even a pop out clock that will do a one minute countdown for you. Obviously some prompts will encourage you to write for more than a minute, which is fine.

Seven Days Seven Answers: Call Me Cate is taking a break from this one, but you may still get some ideas from this blog. She's also encouraging people to still participate on the days that no winners were rewarded, so if you have a worthy entry, you may get one of those nifty number buttons on my sidebar as well (or a different one)! While my entries were normally too short to want to turn into blog entries, yours may not be that way. I hope someday it will come back, but for now I'll have to sit, pout, and wish I hadn't been too busy (or a deer staring into headlights when I saw the prompt) to participate.

Some blogs do specific types of entries on specific days, here's a few I've found that I enjoy:

randomtuesday

Keely has came up with some very random things to post on this day and encourages others to also get random with their blogs.

Wifey and her husband are both in the Navy (she's in the Reserves, he's an active duty sailor), she's only been doing this for two weeks, but she has came up with some really good questions so far!

This is Call Me Cate's main blog, the longest meme I've been participating in and my favorite weekly feature. All you do is describe something in six words, simple enough! It also has many participants and some will visit you as well.

All these ladies track the participating blogs, so please use their Mr. Linky's every week so they & their other participants will find your entry. Call Me Cate request that you use the exact link, so its easier to find that entry, to do this, when the entry posts on your blog, select that entry to come up on your screen, copy the link in your address bar, then go to their blog, find their Mr. Linky and paste the link in the appropriate box. I do this on all three so anyone looking for that specific entry can find it and not necessarily read my ramblings about P's latest mischief or how much my job sucks.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins (a day late)

While catching up on blogs, I found many new layouts (looking great ladies!) and a blog for someone I follow on twitter. Wife of a Sailor has a fun meme she just started for Fridays, since I'm just now finding it on a Saturday, I wanted to go ahead and participate a day late. Hope no one minds!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-ins

This week’s questions are:

  1. 1. How did you and your spouse/significant other meet?
  2. At my job, during the huge event at the beginning of October (and sometimes the end of September), he was helping out at it in 2005. I already knew his mom and older sister, and he already knew one of my cousins. Our boss had us posted near each other, he came in my door to use the restroom, etc. and I would step outside by his post to escape hearing the "fried chicken, salad, 7 vegetable medley" sales pitch for the millionth time that day. One night after I helped close up the building, he walked me out to my car, we kissed, and I won't get into the rest of the story, but it's almost been 5 years and we've been married for almost 3.
  3. 2. What is the best thing about being a MilSpouse?
  4. This is tough to answer, I don't get the same benefits as some other MilSpouses since my husband's in the Reserves, (no insurance, housing allowance, living near a real base, etc.) so at times I don't feel like a MilSpouse. When we're out at places and he's either in uniform or wearing an Army shirt, and someone will either thank him or buy our meal (it's happened a few times), I usually giggle (don't know why) but its nice knowing that people appreciate my husband for joining the military, and training to defend our country.
  5. 3. What is the hardest thing about being a MilSpouse?
  6. THE UNCERTAINTY!!! I've spend a great part of the last 2 years thinking my husband's deploying in a few months when it never happens. Everything is last minute, travel pay comes in AFTER he's left, not knowing if he'll be leaving next week or not for something, him coming home unexpectedly (it has happened several times!), not having any friends (military or not) to vent and talk to about all this, and the whole "deployment" thing last year.
  7. 4. What is your favorite dish?
  8. I'm going to assume this is a dish that I don't cook, since most of my cooking involves pulling a frozen tv dinner out of the freezer and sticking it in the oven (cooks better that way). My husband found this awesome marinara sauce recipe online, so when he cooks it and noodles to go with it, it rocks! In a restraunt setting, manicotti has to be my favorite. Teriaki flavored foods are a close second (asian, Red Robin, etc.)
  9. 5. If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?
  10. Only one??? Hm...the way my life has turned out? Other than the things involving the military and my husband, I've had lots of bad luck that just doesn't seem to run out! I gave up on trying to find a job in the field I have a degree in, my normal summer job was eliminated this year (still pissed about that), the physical pain doesn't seem to ever go away, just move to different areas, living situation (because of the injuries, job stuff and uncertainty w/the Army), and other bull shit.
Sorry if anyone's leaving here depressed (I'm good at doing at apparently), but its nice to get everything out there, and now I will try to go to sleep. Have a good day and thanks for reading!

I was featured on someone's blog!

This is a blog entry about me by D. A. Schweiss:

He featured me on his Blog to Blog post, he felt it was appropriate since it was Memorial Day. We've had some interesting conversations on twitter, and I believe we met through Six Word Saturday. If your coming over here from there, welcome! I hope I can answer some questions in this post to help you understand the one he featured "I'm ok"

I wrote this after my husband (Vx) left for deployment. He's in the Army Reserves, like the National Guard, normally Reservist serve one weekend a month, two weeks a year. There are some out there that are full time Reservist (report for duty almost every day), and there is my husband's current unit, they are instructors, instead of going to drill every month, they teach classes for about 2 weeks at a time every few months; they can be ordered to deploy, like the Active Army. In his former units (the 'one weekend a month/2 weeks a year' ones), he had been told numerous times before that he's deploying, and then someone changed their mind. People would keep asking me and him, "When are you leaving?" and we would keep telling them, "In a few months," but then something would happen and he wouldn't go. He really wants to deploy! I wanted to live on my own before we got married and I didn't, so I wanted him to go because he wanted to and I wanted to live on my own. Finally a unit (I called Salsa) came along, and this time it really did seem like it was real. He left for the mob site (where they go to get their final items issued, medical checks, and training) right before the I'm ok post, his next destination was supposed to be Iraqistan (we didn't know the exact location at the time). At the mob site, a dentist said he needed to come back home to get his teeth fixed, or as I called it, he was too lazy to do it himself, so they flew him back home 3 weeks later, while I was busy at work. His unit got in trouble during that time, and he wasn't allowed to deploy after all. He still hasn't deployed and it doesn't look like he will anytime soon.

Sometimes I forget that I had another blog that I made private, so I write stuff not realizing
there's no point of reference. October 2007 I was in a car wreck, I broke my left femur, had broken glass in my face, and suffered head trauma and short term memory loss. I don't remember the accident, most of my 11 day hospital stay, and other things that have happened since then (I still have some memory problems). While my husband has insurance through the Army (Tricare), getting me covered on it costs too much, & my job doesn't provide benefits for me (I'm considered part-time). I am part Native American, so I can get cheap or free health care through their clinics and a hospital about an hour away. Living in Oklahoma, where many tribes are located, this helps me out greatly in that matter. It's not the greatest health care, but it's better than nothing.

My job: I'm a security guard for an "event center" where they hold a variety of events. This last week is a great example: I started Friday before last watching some semi trucks and trailers for an auction, then I moved to an arena for a horse/cow show, watching merchandise and not allowing competitors or others inside until certain times (one area opened before the others), then I moved to another building for a dog show. As a music lover, obviously I love working concerts, but I have trouble standing around, and being a smaller woman has its disadvantages as well. This particular event, I was supposed to watch a stage and it's sound equipment, but another co-worker who was trying to get some time off from his full-time job couldn't, so I was moved to his post since it was a bigger deal (watching merchandise and a car inside a tent). I showed up 2 1/2 hours early to my job to see Shinedown perform live, despite the cold, it was a great concert! They're not a local band, but when they were starting out, they played shows here a few times a year, until they became a bigger name and started selling out those places immediately.

I hope I answered any questions you may have, if not, feel free to leave a comment, email me silvrstar@gmail.com or if your on twitter, @silvrstar. Again, thanks for stopping by!

Free advertising

One of the many blogs I follow is from Mrs. Newlywed. Right now she is giving away stuff, this is her most recent giveaway: calendars. While this blog entry of mine will get me another entry in this particular contest, I will encourage others to enter as well (I'm nice like that), so go visit her blog, follow her on twitter &/or facebook and post about the giveaway on your blogs as well. Can't we all be nice?

funny twitter message

edgetulsa Hide the kids and grab your bibles. I'm about to play some Manson! Hopefully, lightning won't strike our studios

Is it just me, or does that remind you of your dad as well? Nice way to wake up, a twitter text that makes you think, "That sounds like something your estranged father would say." I guess that also happens at hard rock stations located in the center of the frekin bible belt. Just thought I'd share that w/everyone who reads this.

Twitter

Is it weird that on Twitter, I follow people, websites, blogs, and a talk radio station w/different political views? Some great examples: Republicans that come to mind are a congressman, the before-mentioned talk radio station, and one of their on-air personalities. Democrats are a blog, at least one of their writers, and what I believe to be Obama's official twitter page. I don't consider myself a very political person, I grew up w/Republican parents, and still live in my home state, which is mainly Republican, but I am registered Democrat, and usually believe their views on things more than the Republicans. The radio station and their on-air personality has an easy explanation, in the mornings from 6-7 am, they are not only broadcasting on 2 radio stations, they are also on tv. As someone who at one time wanted to work in radio, seeing all the behind the scenes stuff is worth sitting through their talk. (You also find out how good of broadcasters they are, yesterday, a local mascot visited their studios, the traffic reporter didn't mess up or giggle while the giant bull was dancing right behind him!) That could also explain why I like to Twitter w/the local media, at least the ones I read, see, and hear on a somewhat regular basis. I used to not like Twitter as much, but now I'm getting more into it.
